InnovaTek Delivers Prototype to U.S. Army

7-15-2016

Richland, WA – InnovaTek has delivered to the U.S. Army a prototype InnovaGen® fuel processor that produces hydrogen from JP-8 fuel (jet fuel) for a 300 Watt fuel cell.

The prototype was sent to the Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland where it will be evaluated for use in soldier-portable power systems.  The device was developed under a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract.

The development of a fuel processor that operates with high energy density liquid fuel is an important technical step in bringing portable fuel cell-based power systems into the military.  The quiet operation and high efficiency of fuel cells provide an ideal solution for portable electric power generation for a wide range of applications. InnovaTek’s compact and efficient fuel processor provides hydrogen from multiple types of liquid fuels and will allow fuel cell technology to be feasible in military and commercial markets, providing an alternative to batteries for auxiliary power where long duration performance is desired.
